Seven waves / Suzanne Ciani

"Suzanne Ciani was one of the first and finest woman artists to make a name for herself in the electronic music world. Ciani earned a master's degree in composition from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied with electronic pioneers Max Mathews, John Chowning, and Don Buchla. In 1975 she moved to New York, where she became involved in the Soho art scene, and also worked with minimalist Philip Glass. Ciani Musica, Inc. became one of the foremost commercial production companies in the US. Ciani later expanded into film scoring. "Seven Waves" (1982), her first regular album release, became an underground hit. She recorded this music on vintage electronic equipment. This set is a conglomeration of Ciani's electronic wizardry, her new age sensitivity, and her innate romanticism. The atmospheres and soundscapes are dense and gentle. Her melodies hover above and within the soundscapes. This is classic e-music; it evokes responses similar to those evoked by a.o. Kitaro and Lisa Lynne." (Allmusic)
