"There is indeed cause to "exult and rejoice" over all the performances of all the pieces on this disc; they are as near perfection as can be and the recording is worthy of them. Elly Ameling brings to the first movement of Exsultate, jubilate buoyant and finely poised tone, exemplary phrasing, clearly articulated 'runs', with the repeated groups in the second and more extended of these, charmingly echoed, and a neatly turned cadenza at the close. The little roulades for the two oboes in the beautifully played orchestral part are a delight. I have sometimes, in other performances, felt the slow movement to be rather dull but as Ameling sings it, in this prayer to the Virgin, it sounds really touching and consolatory. (...) Raymond Leppard's direction and the splendid playing of the orchestral parts complete the intense pleasure. And as I said before, I exult and rejoice about this glorious disc."
