Icon Series: Mirella Freni (2008)

This is a lovely set with some hard to find recordings, and captures this lovely singer in her prime. From Mozart to late Puccini her sensitive and honest performances touch the heart and caress the ear. The sound is mostly good, if slightly vintage stereo. HOWEVER while this is a budget price set (hurrah!) there are no texts (boo), and the discs are arranged very bizarrely. It would have been better to group the tracks chronologically, or by composer perhaps. Here we have bits and pieces all over the 4 discs. It's fine, but not terribly well organised. Programme your own order, and then just enjoy some beautiful music, sung to near-perfection! (Customer review Amazon)
