The Bjoerling career in opera was one of many Metropolian Golden AGes, and his colleagues on this recording - Licia Albanese, Zinka MIlanov, Renata Tebaldi and Rober Merrill - added to that great era (...). Every truly great singer has his or her own unique sound, and possibly no voice is more instantly recognizable than that of Jussi Bjoerling (1911-1960). At the outset of his carreer it was a true lyric tenor, wich eventually developed and sustain a seemingly endless phrase, thanks to a matchless control of breath and innate musicianship. And the voice had its clarion moments, but no one ever went tot a Bjoerling Performance only tot hear his high C, effortless as it was. One went tot hear an artist in an integrated portrayal of an operatic character, a portrayal so complete that it seemed more true than life itself. (Richard More, Cd-boekje)
