"This solid overview of Puerto Rico's favorite group of salseros looks at their Fania years -- basically, a 15-year period between the late '60s and early '80s -- with a baker's dozen of classic numbers. Their best LPs get a few numbers each, including Musical Conquest and Explorando (the latter gets four selections), and although progression is difficult to gauge -- Sonora Ponceña changed remarkably little during stylistically turbulent times -- the uniformity works well in the context of a compilation."
