Oorspronkelijk een bij het blad New Musical Express (NME) behorende cassette, later volgde een vinyl-release. Bijna 30 jaar later is er deze meer dan drie keer zo lange 3CD-set in een fraai verzorgd boxje. De hipste Britse bands van 1986 zijn erop te vinden - sommige zijn snel weer vergeten, andere (The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Soup Dragons, Primal Scream, The Wedding Present) werden vrij bekend. C86 werd zelfs een genre-aanduiding voor een ietwat rammelende vorm van indie-pop. Disc 1 bevat het materiaal van de originele cassette-release (in geremasterde vorm), de overige discs bevatten heel vroeg werk van bands uit dezelfde tijd, waarover toen veel geschreven werd in bladen als NME en Sounds. We noemen o.a. Jesus & Mary Chain, Pop Will Eat Itself, BMX Bandits, The Band Of Holy Joy, Happy Mondays, Blue Aeroplanes e.v.a.
