Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble come together for their third studio recording, celebrating their 15th year of making music together. The album features exciting new material, with compositions commissioned exclusively for the ensemble by some of the worlds outstanding contemporary composers as well as new works written and/or arranged by members of the ensemble. Composers & arrangers of the repertoire include David Bruce, Vijay Iyer & John Zorn as well as ensemble members Colin Jacobson, Shane Shanahan, Cristina Pato, Wu Tong & Ko Umezaki. As Korean percussionist Dong-Won Kim notes, musical inspiration surmounts blood and genes. But Ma puts it best: Were trying to answer who we are and how we fit in the world, he says. Saluting his fellow Silk Roaders for their 120 percent commitment to playing in the moment and in celebration of each other, he concludes, In a way, its our job to have a great time and share something that were really, really excited about. Thats magic! (bron: Sony)
