This superb live recording is from late 1977 and finds Tom holding court in fine style at legendary New York venue, My Father's Place. "Foreign Affairs " (released in September 1977) was the current album at the time of this performance. Featured herein are the medley "Jack & Neal / California", "Here I Come", "Muriel" and a solo version of "I Never Talk To Strangers" (originally sung as a duet with Bette Midler). Tom s backing band for this event was a slight variation on his regular touring collective, The Nocturnal Emissions - Frank Vicari on sax, Chip White on drums and upright bassist Danny Trifan replacing FitzGerald Jenkins. While Waits career and profile have continued to advance exponentially in the 37 years since this timeless show was performed, going back to hear Tom. (bron: Smokin')
