'Sutherland is a thrilling soprano, and the album is an attempt to claim Coward for the classical realm. The theatrical works in question may have run in the West End in their initial productions, but this is an interpretation for the opera house. Fans of Coward's music who think of it as variations on "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" need not apply. Like most opera singers, Sutherland is far more interested in the quality of her lovely voice than in any interpretation of the lyrics, and, in any case, none of Coward's witty songs are included. (The closest thing to an exception is "Countess Mitzi," and Sutherland does have some fun applying a German accent to it.) Some of his better-known melodies are, however, among them "I'll Follow My Secret Heart," "I'll See You Again," and "Zigeuner." (Bron: William Ruhlmann, Allmusic)
