"De 34 jaar dat Elliott Smith zijn tijd doorbracht op aarde wordt prachtig neergezet in de documentaire "Heaven Adores You", met het effect dat meer dan ooit duidelijk wordt wat voor rijke creatie Smith was. En is. De tracklisting van deze soundtrack bestaat uit 20 nummers, waarbij het merendeel niet eerder uitgebrachte versies betreft. Ze komen je oren binnen als een rustige golf waarin je Smith voelt. En dat terwijl je kijkt naar fragmenten uit zijn leven dat zich voornamelijk afspeelde in Portland, New York en Los Angeles. Wat opvalt is dat niet is gekozen voor de bekendere nummers, maar juist voor songs die de tijdslijn van Smiths leven in beeld brengen, zo zorgde co-producer Kevin Moyer bijvoorbeeld voor het toevoegen van Elliotts eerste live optreden op TV.
