"Het geluid van het album is voor deze editie niet noemenswaardig verbeterd, dat was al fenomenaal. Maar wat de schellen haast van de ogen doet vallen is de bijgesloten documentaire: een film van anderhalf uur waarin Spike Lee Jacksons verhaal vertelt vanaf zijn eerste hits met de Jackson 5 in 1969 tot aan "Off The Wall" (1979). Precies die jaren waarin Jackson artistiek tot volle wasdom kwam. Goud zijn de interviewfragmenten uit 1976. Jackson geeft erin al blijk van immense ambities. Hij wil echt iets groots neerzetten met muziek en dans, zoals niemand dat voor hem gedaan had. Dankzij een rol in de film The Wiz (1978) komt hij met Quincy Jones in contact. Jacksons platenmaatschappij wil Jones niet, want 'te veel jazz', maar Jackson drukt zijn wil door. En gelukkig maar. "Off The Wall" klinkt nog altijd geweldig; een van de beste platen uit de popmuziek. Vooral dankzij geweldige research laat Lee zien dat Jackson in zijn tienerjaren echt een klasse apart was."
