"Breuker's penchant for borrowing from diverse musical sources is strongly in evidence here; there are tangos, worker's songs, bouzoukis, funk, mock-baroque, and more, all performed within a jazz ambience. Unlike similar purloining from his work in the '80s and '90s, there is still a freshness and sense of true irreverence at this point in his career (as opposed to a cynical malaise), presenting an aural picture of an extremely mischievous kid in a musical candy store and allowing this cultural thievery to work beautifully.
