"British neo-soulsters like Lisa Stansfield, Soul II Soul, Karen Wheeler, the Brand New Heavies, and the Chimes could hold their own against any of the urban contemporary that was coming from the United States. Ruby Turner was also a product of the British R&B scene, but in the U.S. she didn't enjoy nearly as much attention as Stansfield or Wheeler. 1990's Paradise wasn't a big seller in the U.S., and the problem may have been insufficient promotion."
