"De Amerikaanse pianist Kit Armstrong (29) getuigt in zijn recitals al jaren van zijn grote liefde voor de Engelse virginalisten William Byrd en John Bull, tijdgenoten van onze eigen Sweelinck, wiens muziek hij ook al op het programma mag zetten. Virginalisten betekent: bespelers van het virginaal, een klavecimbel. Toch voert Armstrong de werken van Byrd en Bull uit op een moderne vleugel, omdat uitvoeringstradities zich nu eenmaal blijven ontwikkelen en hij bovendien op het standpunt staat dat een klavecimbel de muziek van Byrd niet in het mooiste licht zet, maar een piano wel. Op deze dubbel-cd met de titel The Visionaries of Piano Music voert hij zeer sterke muzikale argumenten aan. Alleen al zijn bijzonder sprankelende uitvoeringen van Bulls Fantasia of de Fantastic Pavan en van Byrds uiterst virtuoze John Come Kiss Me Now snoeren alle criticasters de mond." (Het Parool)
