"Charlie Kunz (1896-1958) was most famous for his relaxed piano medleys of popular melodies. As helmsman for the Casani Club Orchestra during the 1930s he also fit in nicely among British dance band leaders Bert Ambrose, Harry Roy, Bert Firman, Jack Hylton, Debroy Somers, and Roy Fox. Several CD anthologies devoted to Kunz have appeared under the title of his theme song, "Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie." (A jocular drinking song introduced in 1925 by the California Ramblers, it achieved renewed popularity during the 1930s after it was revived as an instrumental swing stomp by Chick Webb, Charlie Barnet, and Count Basie. Stylistically, Kunz's version lands somewhere between the Ramblers and Webb.) Pearl Flapper/Living Era's Charlie Kunz compilation samples a time line from January 1934 to July 1941, tapping occasionally into the Casani Orchestra sound (vocals by George Barclay and Vera Lynn) but largely focusing upon the solo piano medleys that became Kunz's main order of business after 1937."
