"Baba Sissoko is a descendant of a Malian griot clan and is a master on the tama or talking drum. In the past, Sissoko was a member of Habib Koite's band, but meanwhile, he relocated to Italy where he's now working on his solo career. For 'Three Gees' Baba invited Mah Doumba Koroba and Djana Sissoko, respectively his mother and daughter. And Antibalas-percussionist Fernando Velez and American blues/reggae musician Corey Harris also lent a hand. Sissoko describes his sound as Bambara mystic soul, and after listening to 'Three Gees' we can but agree. The cover of 'Three Gees' is reminiscent of vintage LP's from the nineteen seventies, and it's that vintage vibe Sissoko also manages to evoke in the songs on the album; the one time nice and funky like in 'Black Rock' or 'Kali Baba', then soulful like in opener 'Aiuladu' or even slightly psychedelic like in 'Dhe Dhe Dhe' with Corey Harris, and 'Il Faut Pas Ecouter' immediately reminded us of Amadou & Mariam. Groovy album!" (rebelbase.be)
