These days there is no excuse for not knowing Vivaldi’s sacred music, or at least not being aware of it. With Robert King’s cycle on Hyperion nearing completion, and Opus 111 here offering a third disc of an even larger Vivaldi project involving all the music held in the National University Library of Turin, CD-buyers are increasingly blessed. This is Opus 111’s first volume of motets for solo voice and string orchestra, perhaps not the best-known part of the composer’s sacred output, but certainly one that is capable of providing a disc’s worth of attractive and buoyant music.
