Er werd geen muziek meer verwacht. Maar met die cowboyhoed op, op de hoes van toch een nieuw album, lijkt Stefani geïnspireerd door de tijdgeest. "Bouquet" flirt met country. Het nummer "Pretty", met de twang van een countrygitaar en fraaie harmonieën, begeeft zich overtuigend in het countrypopterritorium van Shania Twain. "Purple Irises", een duet met countryzanger en echtgenoot Blake Shelton, staat op een kruispunt waar de melancholie van eightiespop en country samenkomen. Maar de meeste nummers dobberen braaf in het poprockgenre. Bijna alles klinkt als formulewerk; waar een zangeres als Miley Cyrus een middelmatige song naar een hoger niveau kan tillen met geïnspireerde vocalen, blijft Stefani, met die kenmerkende lage nasale stem, toch altijd binnen de veilige marges."
