"World-premiere recordings of early works which shed new light on a foundational figure of classical music in Mexico. On this pioneering volume of Revueltas' piano music, there are 24 separate pieces, none longer than a four-minute Lento doloroso, all individual movements aside from a two-movement Sonatina. Through their course, these pieces form a musical diary which both pays tribute to the instruction of Revueltas's teachers such as Manuel Ponce and Felipe Villanueva, as well as tracing a path of evolution between Mexican romanticism and modernism in music. Of Mexican and German parentage, the pianist Rodolfo Ritter is a professor at the conservatoire in Mexico City, and a musician who has worked to promote the music of his homeland, as a performer, editor and musicologist. His scholarship and musicianship distinguish him as the ideal artist to bring these forgotten pieces by Revueltas to international attention." (joesrecords.com)
Música de feria (Fair Music) is a composition for string quartet by the Mexican composer and violinist Silvestre Revueltas, written in 1932. Though not so titled by the composer, it is sometimes referred to as his String Quartet No. 4. A performance lasts a little more than nine minutes. Música de feria was completed on 25 March 1932 and first performed on 7 November 1933 by the Cuarteto Clásico (violinists Ezequiel Sierra and David Saloma, violist David Elizarrarás, and cellist Teófilo Ariza) at the Teatro Hidalgo in Mexico City. Revueltas had previously composed three numbered quartets in rapid succession in 1930–31, but this work was only first designated his String Quartet No. 4 in 1984, by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano and Juan Arturo Brennan. It is regarded as one of Revueltas's most important works. Of his four quartets, Música de feria is without question the one that has most often been performed and recorded. (...) (Wikipedia)
