"Toen Ringo en T Bone elkaar twee jaar geleden ontmoetten op een feestje bij Olivia Harrison was het plan om samen wat op te nemen snel gesmeed. Starr, 84 inmiddels, beperkte zich al jaren tot het EP-formaat, maar al snel lag er genoeg materiaal voor een volledig album. "Look Up" klinkt zo authentiek als je van een countryalbum in 2025 mag verwachten. Ogenschijnlijk simpele en directe liedjes in de stijl van Gene Autry, George Jones en Billy Swann, maar wel alle elf raak qua uitvoering en emotie. Starrs tekortkomingen op melodisch vlak worden slim opgevangen door de co-vocalisten Billy Strings, Molly Turtle, Larkin Poe en Alison Krauss. Geen topbezetting, maar goede vocalisten die een authentieke klank toevoegen. Starr schoot in 1973 een keer uit zijn slof met het album "Ringo" en de wereldhit "Photograph". "What's My Name is the 20th album Ringo Starr has released as a solo artist. During the 2000s and 2010s, Ringo has been treating the recording studio like an extension of his All-Starr Band, inviting his celebrity friends in to have a laugh while playing a few tunes. Not much has changed with What's My Name, at least on the surface. Starr once again sits alone in the producer's chair, and he corrals a group that features a lot of familiar faces, including Joe Walsh, Steve Lukather, Nathan East, Benmont Tench, Dave Stewart and Colin Hay. Ringo isn't shy about evoking the ghost of the Beatles, covering John Lennon's "Grow Old with Me," a choice that is a good bit more sensitive than a ham-fisted electronic reading of "Money". As the spirits are sunny and the songs tuneful, it's hard not to find What's My Name ingratiating, even though much of the album is so good-intentioned, it's silly." (Allmusic)

On 21st October 1985 at Londons Limehouse Studios a superstar cast of friends and fans joined Carl Perkins to record a TV special celebrating his career, 30 years after he recorded "Blue Suede Shoes". Perkins was joined by George Harrison and Eric Clapton and other stars including Dave Edmunds, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee (Stray Cats) Rocker plus Earl Slick and singer Rosanne Cash. George Harrison struck up a lasting friendship with Perkins and much of the continued interest in the programme lies in the prominent role played by Harrison. The former Beatle takes lead vocal on several tracks as well as playing guitar. He is joined by former colleague Ringo Starr: their first gig together since the mid-1970s. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this unique show, the concert is released as DVD/CD set in a mediabook with liner notes from Sam Szczepanski, who was one of the fans who managed to get a ticket for the show. On the standards, Starr is his usual good-natured self, and the standout track is the cover of "Christmas Time Is Here Again." There are precious few lyrics besides the title, but it deserves to be added to the ranks of Christmas standards. So, Ringo Starr is well-served by his supporting musicians on I Wanna Be Santa Claus, and his typically cheery manner is so well-suited to the holiday spirit that it's only a shame he waited so long to make his seasonal recording."
