Van het toen recente "You Are What You Is" wordt o.a. de complete derde plaatkant gespeeld.
"This album was one of the first and most successful of his more guitar- and song oriented albums albums, garnering attention for such tracks as the Grammy-nominated disco satire "Dancin' Fool," the controversial "Jewish Princess," and the equally controversial "Bobby Brown Goes Down," a song about gay S&M that became a substantial hit in European clubs. While Zappa's attitude on the latter two tracks was even more politically incorrect than usual for him, it didn't stop the album from becoming his second-highest charting ever. Social satire, leering sexual preoccupations, and tight, melodic songs dominated the rest of the record as well, as Zappa stuck to what had been commercially successful for him in the past. The music was undeniably good and belongs to his most accessible. Even if it sometimes drifts a bit, fans of Zappa's '70s work will find "Sheik Yerbouti" on nearly an equal level with "Apostrophe" and "Over-Nite Sensation", both in terms of humor and musical quality." "This concert has been circulating on the traders scene for many years. It is one of the concerts recorded by the legendary taper, Dan Kaminski, and the sound quality is not bad for a 1975 show. The set list is a classic one from the Bongo Fury tour with Beefhearts vocals on five of the tracks. The packaging is slightly better than some bootlegs. The front cover has a colourised picture of Frank and Don from 1969 (also used on the discs) while the back cover has graduation photos of them both. Im not sure where the background notes are as the CD insert is just a 1975 interview with Don. Theres not even a list of the band members. For completeness sake, here they are: bass Tom Fowler; drums Terry Bozzio; guitar Denny Walley; guitar, vocals Frank Zappa; keyboards, vocals George Duke; soprano saxophone, Harmonica, vocals Captain Beefheart; tenor saxophone, vocals Napoleon M. Brock; trombone Bruce Fowler." (bron: Beefheart.com)
"According to the Zappa Family Trust, "Dance Me This" is 'the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with "Trance-Fusion"; the last chapter in his Master Work, "Civilization Phaze III."' 'This is it. #100. The LAST album by Frank Zappa. Tap your foot algorithmically to this,' the estate adds. The album's title track reportedly features a recording of Tuvan "throat singers," members of a northern China tribe that Zappa accompanied with a Synclavier composition. One of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Zappa switched to the Synclavier as his main compositional tool in 1984 with a pair of albums, "Francesco Zappa" and "Boulez Conducts Zappa: The Perfect Stranger". Zappa continued to experiment with the pioneering electronic music device even as he battled terminal prostate cancer, resulting in both "Dance Me This" and 1994's "Civilization Phaze III"."
""Joe's Garage" is generally regarded as one of Zappa's finest post-'60s conceptual works, a sprawling, satirical rock opera about a totalitarian future in which music is outlawed to control the population. The narrative is long, winding, and occasionally loses focus, but Zappa manages to make most of it hang together. Acts II & III give off much the same feel, as Zappa relies heavily on what he termed "xenochrony" -- previously recorded guitar solos transferred onto new, rhythmically different backing tracks to produce random musical coincidences. Such an approach is guaranteed to produce some slow moments as well. "Joe's Garage" satirizes social control mechanisms, consumerism, corporate abuses, gender politics, religion, and the rock & roll lifestyle; all these forces conspire against the title protagonist, an average young man who simply wants to play guitar and enjoy himself. In spite of its flaws, this is one of Zappa's most important '70s works and overall political statements." (Steve Huey, Allmusic)
