Cara Dillon, one of folks leading lights, returns with the captivating album "A Thousand Hearts". Well worth the wait, it follows the acclaimed, Radio 2 Folk Album of the Year 2010 "Hill of Thieves". Produced and arranged by husband Sam Lakeman, the album features guest vocals from Timothy B Schmit (The Eagles), American singer/songwriter Aoife O'Donovan and English folk musician John Smith. The eleven songs are an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary loosely themed around affairs of the heart. These include songs such as "Avalanche" a stunning cover of the Shawn Colvin song, "River, Run" a cover of little known 90s indie pop act Suddenly Tammy! which is a beautiful song about River Phoenix and also a number of traditional songs including "As I Roved Out" continuing Caras practice of taking better known folk songs and making them her own. Cara Dillon is een met oorstrelende, loepzuivere, maar toch ook net niet zoetige stem gezegende Noord-Ierse zangeres. Deze DVD is een registratie van een concert in het fraaie Grand Opera House in Belfast. Het concert stond deels in het teken van haar in eigen beheer uitgebrachte album "Hill Of Thieves", met daarop veel traditionele Keltische folksongs. Ze wordt begeleid door een zevenkoppige band rond haar man Sam Lakeman, met o.a. Uilleann Pipes (Ierse doedelzak), fiddle, fluiten en akoestische gitaren. Dit materiaal is aangevuld met een paar niet eerder door haar op plaat gezette stukken. Het concert heeft dus een beduidend ander karakter dan haar eerste albums "Cara Dillon" en "Sweet Liberty", waarop folk vermengd was met singer/songwriter-luisterpop.
Moderne folkzangeres uit Somerset, die in thuis al een ster van formaat is. Met fluwelen stem zingt ze beeldschone liedjes (soms traditioneel, vaak van eigen hand, wel in folkstramien), die zeer smaakvol (semi-akoestisch) gearrangeerd zijn.
