"Gestaag werkt de Britse singer-songwriter Piers Faccini (Londen 1970) aan een interessant oeuvre dat veel meer omvat dan muziek alleen. Voor zijn album "I Dreamed An Island" maakte hij ook tekeningen, foto’s en hield hij een lezenswaardig blog bij. In tegenstelling tot veel andere singer/songwriters kijkt Faccini wel verder dan de vierkante centimeter rondom zijn navel. Hij reist graag en duikt graag de geschiedenis in. Een reis naar Sicilië inspireerde hem tot dit album. In de tijd van de 12e eeuw was Sicilië een unieke samenleving waar Noormannen, Arabieren en Grieken vreedzaam naast elkaar leefden en er een cultuur van uitwisseling ontstond. Koren op de molen van Piers Faccini, die op dit album afwisselend zingt in het Engels, Arabisch en Siciliaans. De combinatie van Faccini’s Brits klinkende stem en dictie (soms doet hij denken aan Nick Drake) en exotische instrumentatie zorgt voor een afwisselend album." (Muziekweb)
"Malian kora master Ballaké Sissoko and British Italian songwriter Piers Faccini deliver a full-blown album as a duo, taking the migration of nightingales as their inspiration and following one’s calling as their theme. It’s a gentle, captivating work, its songs soaked in nature imagery and beautifully married to Sissoko’s intricate, dazzling playing. Faccini’s high, reedy vocals are not the sturdiest, but he’s in robust form here. The songs are packed with longing, whether the pull of another country, a return home or a lost love. "One Half Of A Dream" is impatient to go, blown along by Sissoko’s gusting kora, while "Mournful Moon" and "North and South" are steeped in desert blues. A different mood comes with "Ninna Nanna", an Italian folk song that’s the only piece not in English, its staccato lyrics leavened by Ségal’s cello.
