Claudio Santoro (1919-1989) was een internationaal befaamd Braziliaanse componist, dirigent en violist. Op jonge leeftijd begonnen zijn muzieklessen. Op zijn achttiende jaar al gaf hij zelf les op het conservatorium. Hij was als componist een leerling van de invloedrijke H.J. Koellreutter. In Parijs studeerde hij bij N. Boulanger. Hij was betrokken bij de oprichting van het Braziliaans Symfonieorkest (waarin hij ook zelf speelde.) Hij schreef voornamelijk instrumentale muziek, waaronder veertien symfonie?, drie pianoconcerten en zeven strijkkwartetten.
