"De concertrapsodie blijft een verrassende vorm die Chatsjatoerian op piano en viool heeft toegepast, maar ook hier is er meer kleur dan vorm te ontwaren. Dat wil niet zeggen dat we niet kunnen genieten van de melodische rijkdom van deze in 1963 aan Mstislav Rostropovich opgedragen rapsodie. Het celloconcert uit 1946 heeft uiteraard meer vorm, maar dat geldt voornamelijk voor het eerste deel. De registratie door Naxos is extreem realistisch. Vlak voor de cadens in het eerste deel bijvoorbeeld, horen we de fagot knorren en kunnen we hem bijna aanraken. Het podium is zeldzaam precies, groot en diep.
