"In de video van het nummer "Anywhere The Wind Blows" zingt Neal Morse achter het stuur van een dure bolide zijn lied terwijl de wind door zijn haren waait. En daarmee zet hij eigenlijk de toon van dit hele album: het is prettig in het gehoor liggende muziek die je uitstekend kunt luisteren als je in de auto op weg bent. Samen met zijn maten Nick D’Virgilio en Ross Jennings heeft Morse snel een opvolger gemaakt voor “Troika”, het eerste samenwerkingsverband van deze heren. Ik mocht ook “Troika” recenseren en was (en ben) positief over dit album. Vooral vanwege de frisheid van de liedjes. En ik weet niet precies hoe het komt, maar dit album “Sophomore” vind ik toch echt wat minder. Aan de ene kant klinken de heren meer als een band, maar ik heb toch het idee dat de nummers te snel geschreven zijn. Wat gebleven is zijn de Crosby, Stills & Nash-invloeden, alsmede de folk- en countryreferenties. Dat deze heren goede songs kunnen schrijven is inmiddels wel bekend." (Progwereld)
"Im not going to get into whats prog and what isnt prog, save to say that this is an eclectic rock album with an underpinning concept that runs through it. While not tied to a strict character driven narrative, this is the story of a life a person facing the challenges many of us face day to day: loneliness, friendship, work, money, failure, redemption, faith, decisions and to that extent the every-person aspect means the songs will mean different things to different people which to me is the sign of a well written lyric. With respect to all of his previous output, for me this album is a pinnacle in Nicks discography. Compositionally, lyrically, and in arrangement and performance, Nick DVirgilio reaches a new level with Invisible. Combining his talents with a great selection of guests (that includes all of his immediate family on vocals at some point!) and a concept and lyrical themes that anyone can buy into, you have a very strong album that definitely merits your investigation." Ofwel Nick D'Virgilio, Spock's Beard's drummer, ook te horen op werk van Genesis, Roland Orzabal & Kevin Gilbert. Dit laatste genie, in 1996 overleden, doet hier nog mee. Evenals ex-Zappa-gitarist Mike Keaneally en zijn bandleden Bryan Beller (bas) en Rick Mussallam (gitaar). Topbassist Dave Carpenter is een andere verrassende gast. Minder symfo dan Spock's Beard, maar niet minder progressief, creatief en bovendien afwisselend.
