Koud een paar weken na de eerste samenwerking op CD tussen Brian Eno en Karl Hyde (Underworld) verschijnt er nóg een full length album! "High Life" is zeer anders dan voorganger "Someday World". Veel meer in de lijn van moderne componisten als Steve Reich, Phillip Glass en Brian Eno. De ritmes zijn motorischer, meer krautrock. Met af en toe een sterke groove in de lijn van Fela Kutis afrobeat. When "Someday World" was finished I felt like we were still on a roll and I wasn't ready to stop working and get into 'promotional mode' for that record. So I suggested we immediately start on another album, a different one, where we extended some of the ideas we'd started, and attempted some of the ideas we hadn't. - Brian Eno. Fatherland is a bold, ambitious show about the complexities and contradictions of fatherhood; a vivid, urgent and deeply personal portrait of 21st-century England at the crossroads of past, present and future. The script is based on recorded interviews that took place in Corby, Stockport and Bewdley in 2015 when Graham, Stephens and Hyde undertook a road trip connecting their home towns, gathering stories of fathers and fatherhood from family, friends, and strangers. Fatherland (Original Music from the Stage Show) features versions of pieces that will be interpreted by the cast of Fatherland (the lyrics are taken from the same original source material captured on that road trip) yet is its own distinctive piece of work an odd, affecting collection of elegiac, biographies. The album comprises the original recordings made through this unique collaboration between two of British musics most innovative artists, Karl Hyde and Matthew Herbert. (bron: Underworld)
De Underworld-zanger maakt dit keer geen house of techno, maar laat zich van zijn meest ingetogen en introspectieve kant horen. Op "Edgeland" schetst hij impressies van de rafelranden van het Engelse stadsleven, "in songs die voorbijdrijven als staalkleurige regenwolken" (Menno Pot in De Volkskrant). Het resultaat doet denken aan de rustiger nummers van Orchestral Manouevres In The Dark of Depeche Mode. Op de DVD staat de film 'The Outer Edges', met fraaie visuals van Kieran Evans.
