Op 2 juli 2023 op Afrika Festival, Hertme: "Al Bilali Soudan bestaat uit griots, zangers en smeden uit de regio Timboektoe (in de Sahel, vroeger Soudan geheten), Mali. Het is een familieorkest van vaders en zonen, ooms en neven o.l.v. Abellou Yattara, meester op de tehardent (Tamasheg voor de driesnarige ngoni). Yatara is al meer dan 40 jaar een prominent. Hij speelde mee op de eerste cassette-opnames van Ali Farka Touré en in de jaren 70 met Orchestre de Tombouctou. Zijn missie is om de tijdloze klanken van Toeareg-tradities voort te zetten en de aandacht te vestigen op hun overlevingsstrijd. De gebruikte instrumenten: 4 versterkte tehardenten en 2 kalebassen. Het geluid is rauw en trance-opwekkend met Yattara die met zijn tehardent vurige uitbarstingen van elkaar opvolgende riffs laat horen in een terugkerende groove, met zwevende hypnotiserende gezangen in Tamasheq en Songhai. De opgewekte trance loopt uit op een gracieuze en ritmische dans (de Takamba), die zittend begint en dan staand wordt voortgezet."

" Field recordings made in the 1970s of traditional music from various locations in Ghana. The musicians are accomplished non-professionals. The repertoire is traditional. In these senses is the music is much closer to what one would hear at traditional gatherings (such as the installation of a new chief) than say that produced by professional folk musicians.The audio quality of these recordings is quite high, though on a number of tracks considerable incidental crowd noise is also audible - in some sense adding to documentation of the social context of these performances. Instruments played in these recordings include the axatse (a gourd rattle), dzil and chohun (similar to a xylophone or marimba), donno (talking drum), gonje (single stringed bowed lute), gyamadudu (bass drum), mpintintoa (single headed gourd drum), namuma (animal horn trumpet), wiik (flute). Het lijkt inderdaad een wedstrijd aangenaam effectief en vooral in de overtreffende trap schreeuwen. Dat constateerde ook de ontdekker van deze bestofte mastertapes in Benin. Zeer zorgvuldig heeft hij de bezeten hoogvliegers van deze groepen, die vol vertrouwen meegolfden op een tsunami van Afro- en nog heftigere wildemansbeats, gerestaureerd. En ook al kennen ze James Brown en Bob Marley, weer flikker je van je stoel. In Cotounou, Togo en Benin namen de engineers die totaal onbeschaamde, overtreffende trappen van de funky JB-schreeuw met nog funkier lokale polybeats op. Luister naar de funkorgie die Tidiani Kone en zijn Orchestre PolyRitmo over je heen spuiten en je wilt nóg veel meer.
