"Wolfgang Haffner is Europe’s top jazz drummer. Unlike some band-leading drummers, he doesn’t treat every number as his personal showcase. He’s a musician first. This double album was recorded on tour late last year, and I can well believe that the other six players – three German, two American and one Swedish – really do constitute Haffner’s Dream Band. There’s always something uplifting about the sound of a small band bursting into an ensemble passage with all the accuracy and fire of a big band. And there’s a wealth of individuality in the solos. I loved Nat Adderley’s tune Sweet Emma, with Randy Brecker (trumpet), Bill Evans (tenor saxophone) and Nils Landgren (trombone) taking turns while Haffner quietly stokes up the rhythm behind them. It’s modern but timeless too. As I played through these 20 tracks, I felt certain that what made the whole thing seem so natural and groovy was Haffner himself, his wonderful keyboard man Simon Oslender, and bassist Thomas Stieger. "Dat saxofonist ‘die andere’ Bill Evans zich helemaal thuisvoelt in het domein van de jazzrock en fusion weten we al sinds zijn samenwerkingen met Miles Davis in de eerste helft van de jaren 80. Sindsdien heeft hij met een illuster rijtje pop- en jazz musici op het podium gestaan. Zijn liefde voor blues en americana heeft hij ook nooit onder stoelen of banken gestoken, getuige zijn album Soulgrass (2005), waarop hij bluegrass en jazz combineerde. Gitarist Robben Ford lijkt wat dat betreft uit hetzelfde hout gesneden te zijn als Evans; zowel jazz als blues zijn idiomen waarin hij zich moeiteloos weet uit te drukken. Met hun gezamenlijke project namen ze eerder al The Sun Room (2019) op. Ditmaal worden Evans en Ford bijgestaan door Darryl Jones (die zowel bij Miles Davis als The Rolling Stones baste) en drummer Keith Carlock. Zoals te verwachten serveren de heren ons een dampende portie groovy jazz- en blues-rock, waarbij in de solo’s en melodieën de soul nooit ver weg is." (JV Muziekweb)
