2014-remaster van 1973-album. "With his first solo tour looming ahead in November and December of 1974, George Harrison felt impelled to rush out a new album, and even a steadily worsening case of laryngitis wouldn't stop him. The album is perhaps most notorious for Harrison's bitter, slipshod rewrite of the Everly Brothers' hit "Bye Bye Love" -- referring openly to George's wife Pattie running off with Eric Clapton and, for good measure, having both of them on the session! Dark Horse would also be the name of Harrison's soon-to-be-formed new label, as well as a metaphor for the underestimated Beatle who leaped artistically and commercially ahead of his three colleagues immediately after the Beatles' breakup." On 21st October 1985 at Londons Limehouse Studios a superstar cast of friends and fans joined Carl Perkins to record a TV special celebrating his career, 30 years after he recorded "Blue Suede Shoes". Perkins was joined by George Harrison and Eric Clapton and other stars including Dave Edmunds, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee (Stray Cats) Rocker plus Earl Slick and singer Rosanne Cash. George Harrison struck up a lasting friendship with Perkins and much of the continued interest in the programme lies in the prominent role played by Harrison. The former Beatle takes lead vocal on several tracks as well as playing guitar. He is joined by former colleague Ringo Starr: their first gig together since the mid-1970s. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this unique show, the concert is released as DVD/CD set in a mediabook with liner notes from Sam Szczepanski, who was one of the fans who managed to get a ticket for the show. This set captures the whole concert. The DVD also includes short interviews. (bron: Madfish)
