Eerste zes albums, uit de periode 1973 - 1978, van Rufus (ook wel Rufus & Chaka Khan of Rufus feat. Chaka Khan) in een boxje. Het betreft verkleinde versies van de oorspronkelijke LP-klaphoezen, maar helaas wel ontdaan van de binnenhoezen waar verdere opname-info op te vinden was. "One of the most commercially successful funk groups of the '70s, the multi-racial Rufus are today best remembered for launching the career of soul diva Chaka Khan, whose fiery lead vocals were easily the band's focal point. Powered by Khan -- who was eventually billed in addition to the group -- and an unerring sense of groove, Rufus scored an impressive string of US hit singles on both the pop and R&B charts, which lasted through the '70s and up to Khan's official departure in 1983." (bron: Allmusic) Het laatste deel van Khans carrière met de band, dat bijv. nog de hit "Ain't Nobody" opleverde, is dus niet opgenomen in deze set.
Soul/funk-zangeres met krachtige stem. Met o.a. 'Ain't Nobody', 'I Feel For You', 'I'm Every Woman' e.a. Op 't nieuwe 'Never Miss the Water' is Me'Shell Ndegé Ocello te horen.
"Still very much an integral part of Rufus, Chaka Khan set the charts on fire with her debut solo release. The first single was the R&B chart-topper "I'm Every Woman," an Ashford & Simpson track with Khan lighting up the lyric with her tantalizing vocals. "Life Is a Dance," the second release, doesn't quite compare to its predecessor, but it still made the US R&B Top 40. The sentimental ballad "Roll Me Through the Rushes" is poetically engaging, and despite never being released as a single, it became a mainstay of radio. Begeleid door een flinke band o.l.v. vet-funkende bassist en inclusief enkele achtergrondvocalisten gaat de soulzangeres in vogelvlucht door haar repertoire, waarbij haar Rufus-jaren niet vergeten worden. Met o.a. "Ain't Nobody", "I Feel For You", "I'm Every Woman" etc.
