"Een normaal album, waarop Vince gewoon zichzelf is. Daar hebben we knap lang op moeten wachten. Gill werkt hier met drummer/producer Steve Jordan, die recent met Keith Richards werkte, en samen leggen ze in de meeste nummers een stevige lading rockende country neer met een geluid dat vaak sterk doet denken aan het betere werk van de Eagles. Dat slaat vooral goed aan in "Reasons For The Tears I Cry", "Make You Feel Real Good", "Take Me Down" (m.m.v Little Big Town) en "When It's Love". Het album bevat ook fraaie ballads, waarvan het titelnummer, "Me And My Girl" en vooral "Sad One Comin' On (A Song For George Jones)" het mooist uit de verf komen. Helaas staan er ook twee missers op. "I Can't Do This" is een overdreven dramatische smartlap waarin Gill zijn ex achtervolgt terwijl ze met haar nieuwe vriend uitgaat. Gill's smooth tenor singing is practically the definition of modern slow-burning country sincerity, all done with a touch of that bluegrass "high lonesome" sound, and his ease with ballads frequently obscures the fact that he is one hell of a guitar player when he decides to be. Highlights are duets with Reba McEntire ("The Heart Won't Lie") and Dolly Parton ("I Will Always Love You"), an interesting cover of the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why," and the infectious and upbeat "Liza Jane," which lets Gill rock things out a little. In de jaren '90 groeide deze countryzanger uit tot een superster. Daarvóór, in de jaren tachtig, had hij een handvol platen gemaakt voor RCA: 'Turn Me Loose' (1983), 'The Things That Matter'(1984) en 'The Way Back Home' (1987). De 20 songs op deze verzamelaar komen vnl. van die drie platen en variëren van countryrock tot bluegrass- en honkey tonk-beïnvloed, maar zijn vnl. behoorlijk middle of the road-pop-geörienteerd, zij het vanuit country-invalshoek.
