"Naxos continues in its very fine tradition of bringing together brilliant, lesser-known soloists and equally skilled and underrated orchestras in this recording of five (out of 135) of Tartini's violin concertos. Violinist Ariadne Daskalakis and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra unite to produce a thoroughly enjoyable album. Playing on her 1769 Guadagnini violin, Daskalakis' vibrant and eloquent ornamentation absolutely sparkles. Her approach to the instrument, while still very much in the Baroque tradition, is powerful and warm. The slow middle movements of each of the concertos, which are quite vocal in quality, present long, spun musical lines and are played with as much thoughtfulness and tenderness as could be hoped for. Daskalakis' cadenzas, which are heard in all but the G major Concerto, are flashy but maintain the character and decorum established by Tartini. "Hoe vaak zijn de vioolconcerten van Mozart niet vastgelegd, en dan met name het vijfde en laatste uit 1775, nog gecomponeerd in Salzburg (in 1781 verhuisde hij naar Wenen). Voor Hahn een natuurlijke keus: zowel het Vijfde vioolconcert van Vieuxtemps als dat van Mozart studeerde ze al op heel jonge leeftijd in: ze was pas tien toen ze zich aan deze technisch maar ook muzikaal veeleisende stukken waagde, om ze daarna op haar repertoire te houden. Dat ze ook met dit Mozart-concert op en top is vergroeid blijkt wel uit haar niet minder meesterlijke vertolking, waarin alles ideaal op zijn plaats valt. Er is geen twijfel mogelijk: zowel met deze twee vioolconcerten van Vieuxtemps en Mozart plaatst Hilary Hahn zich aan de top van de discografische Parnassus. Het aandeel van de Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen onder leiding van Paavo Järvis is ronduit voorbeeldig, de opname uitstekend geslaagd. "In juli 2009 vierde violist Renaud Capuçon zijn wittebroodsweken op ongebruikelijke wijze: hij was slechts twee dagen getrouwd toen hij alweer aan het werk moest om Beethovens Vioolconcert op te nemen met Yannick Nézet Séguin en het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest. Op deze cd combineert Capuçon het populaire concert met het veel minder bekende Vioolconcert van Erich Wolfgang Korngold. In zijn jonge jaren was de violist echter zo onder de indruk van Korngolds concert, dat hij zich voornam om het in een dag in te studeren. Korngold behoorde tot de vele Europese kunstenaars die tijdens de opkomst van nazi-Duitsland een veilig heenkomen zochten in Los Angeles. Voor Warner Brothers componeerde Korngold zo'n achttien soundtracks. Veel van deze muziek werd later weer gerecycled voor het serieuze klassieke werk, waaronder een symfonie en het voornoemde Vioolconcert". (HJ, Muziekweb).
